Original 19th-century antique French miniature portrait painting on ivory by Charles Berny, also known as Claude Charles Antoine Berny d'Ouville, (1775-1842). The painting is a miniature portrait of a lady and is in very good original condition. The painting alone measures approximately 2.5" X 3.25". In the original antique wood-carved gold gild frame and behind the dark red soft antique velvet matting and glass of the image portion of the frame, the entire artwork measures approximately 10.5" X 12.2".  The painting is estimated to have been created in approximately 1827.

Claude Charles Antoine Berny d'Ouvillé, also known as Charles Berny (1775–1842), was a distinguished French painter and miniaturist. He exhibited his works at the Salon de Paris from 1802 to 1833, with notable pieces including a portrait of the famous actress Émilie Leverd. One of his significant works, "Étude de jeune fille dans un drapé classique," is part of the Wallace Collection.

Born in Clermont, Berny married Eulalie Joséphine Biju-Duval d'Algreis in 1811. The couple had a child, famously portrayed by Eugène Delacroix in 1828; this portrait is now part of the McIlhenney Collection in Philadelphia, U.S. Berny passed away in Batignolles in 1842.
