Caio Fonseca, an American painter born in 1959, is recognized for his artistic endeavors. He is the son of Gonzalo Fonseca, a renowned sculptor from Uruguay, and his brother, Bruno Fonseca, was also an artist. Additionally, his sister, Isabel Fonseca, is a writer.

Fonseca spent his formative years in the West Village of Manhattan, New York City, where his father maintained his sculpture studio. He resided in Barcelona, Spain, for a period of five years, during which he received instruction from Augusto Torres, whose father had previously taught Gonzalo Fonseca in Uruguay in the 1940s. Following his time in Spain, Fonseca briefly returned to Uruguay before settling in Pietrasanta, located near the marble quarries of Carrara in north-western Tuscany, Italy. Subsequently, he lived and created art in Paris. Eventually, Fonseca relocated back to New York, where he held his inaugural solo exhibition at the Charles Cowles Gallery in SoHo, Manhattan, in 1993. Notably, the Metropolitan Museum acquired two of his paintings following the exhibition.

In 2001, one of Fonseca's canvases was purchased by the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, while the Museum of Modern Art acquired three of his works in 2005. His artistic contributions can also be found in the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. Fonseca's talent garnered him a solo exhibition at the Institut Valencià d'Art Modern in Valencia, Spain, in 2003, as well as at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, in 2004.

Presently, Fonseca maintains studios in the East Village of Manhattan and in Pietrasanta, Tuscany.
