Clara Greenleaf Perry (1871-1960) was a prominent American artist known for her contributions to genre, portrait, and landscape art, as well as sculpture. Born near Long Branch, New Jersey, on August 22, 1871, she emerged as one of Robert Henri's most talented students and colleagues.
Following her early education, Perry pursued independent studies with Robert Henri at the Art Students League in New York and further honed her skills at the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts under the guidance of Edmond Tarbell and Frank Benson. These mentors played pivotal roles in the evolution of representational art in the United States during the turn of the century.
Embarking on a creative journey, Perry ventured to Europe, where she established a studio and expanded her knowledge by attending classes at the Academy Julian with M. R. Collins. Subsequently, she showcased her oil paintings and pastel works at the Paris-based Salons of the Beaux Arts group. Perry's artistic endeavors thrived in her new home and studio in Paris.
