Elias J. Rivera, (born 1937), whom resides in Santa Fe, N.M. Rivera is perhaps known best for his Latin Genre painting, and street life scenes, although his rarely discovered New Mexico desert landscapes are quite detailed, and extraordinarily beautiful, as well.

Elias Rivera's paintings are in permanent collection of: Santa Fe Museum of Art, the State Capital building in New Mexico, New Mexico International Airport, Banco De Ponce NYC, private collections of Fortunoff family & Gene Hackman, Ali Macgraw, in addition to many other private collections. Elias Rivera was born NYC 1937, and attended the Arts Students League, (NYC), from 1956 to 1961. Elias Rivera has had solo successful exhibitions in many museums & galleries around the world. A book by Edward Lucie-Smith with Forwards from Gov. Bill Richardson and Gene Hackman, illustrates many color plates of Elias's paintings and his biography. His work has appeared in many art magazines and periodicals; his work in genre and landscape is constantly in demand, due to the fine professional manner of painting the artist has adopted. Elias Rivera is the recipient of numerous awards in fine art. This rare painting is one of only a few that he painted of the Southwest landscape.
Subject of a canyon is gorgeous. Shows influences from desert Plein Air predecessors in the Santa Fe region, of Edgar Alwin Payne, Karl Albert, and Sam Hyde Harris. The light is incredible, and perspective in the field is extraordinary. Golden colors of the evening falling on the desert buttes in orange, red; shadows of baby blue, and pink.
