Greek Armos Art Group Signed Panayiotis Tetsis Manner Vintage Modern Original Post Impressionism Seascape European Contemporary Figurative Portrait Gouache on Canvas Painting
Original portrait oil painting of a woman/model walking on the beach, by a member of the Greek school of painters known as the Armos Art Group.
In 1949, Panayiotis Tetsis along with Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, Yannis Moralis, Nikos Nikolaou, Nikos Engonopoulos, and Yiannis Tsarouchis, established the "Armos" art group. The painting is hand-signed lower left and reverse, and is estimated to be by Panayiotis Tetsis.
On the reverse, there is a handwritten dedication from the artist to the woman/model. The model appears to have a certain resemblance to the professional international model, Cindy Crawford) The writing on the reverse of the canvas has been translated from Greek to English:
"The journey of time for all of us has a unique purpose; to search and find the happiness in all the possible ways you can find. I put myself inside of this time, and I had the luck(?) to understand that the happiness - the real happiness is one.. and all of us, we struggle just to grab one or more of this ways to happiness. When I see this painting, I understand which is going to be the happiness for me. You can see a woman alone...walking and just looking somewhere. Can you say for sure that she is walking or she is running? Let's say that she is walking...what happens and she turns her head back? In the other hand she runs...and there is a reason for that...maybe she is scared or afraid something or she want to escape from anything? When we see her eyes..her look..what says to us? Is that snob look that models have? Is the sad and scared look that all of us have in every new start in life? Or is it the look of confidence for new start? Her dimensions and her face is something that anyone would desire, and a lot of people could run or walk by her side. But what does she really want? This beautiful face why is so cold; what is it that scares you? For me happiness, as I said before, is to understand what she feels...which are her emotions that particularly moment...maybe she want to speak, but she doesn't do that because she feels that she is just colours in a picture.
Maybe, with her own special way, she said all those things that no one else could say to you. I'm never going to be able to tell you for sure. Maybe the happiness that a woman can give you generally speaking, are the thoughts that takes over your mind in a time of your life; like the woman in the painting? Happy Birthday, and I wish in your own personal journey to have always by your side happiness in any way you want, and you can imagine."
