Rare, original, modern abstract expressionist mixed media painting, by contemporary modernist artist, Gregory Garrett. This mixed media by Gregory Garrett is of the swirl pattern series; and has wonderful color, and composition. His reproductions for art and modern design are highly sought; having influences ranging from old masters, to Pablo Picasso. Very rare, an original has not been offered on the secondary market, until this painting. This original Gregory Garrett painting was exhibited, and has the exhibition number written in the upper left corner, on reverse; his signature, lower right of the painting. A complicated abstract, the colors are instantly striking, with a deep perspective. This painting is primarily watercolor, however, does appears to have some gouache, and has mixed media aspects floating through the painting. Approximate measurements of painting alone, are 19"X10.5". In frame, painting measures approximately 17 3/4"X27". Painting is protected behind plexiglass; (there is a crack in the plexiglass, on the lower right portion, as shown). This does not affect the painting. (Painting was put behind plexiglass for protection; and to protect painting, for shipping.)

Gregory Garrett has stated he had no choice but to be an artist. From an early age, light and darkness fascinated him. His earliest childhood memory found him sitting by himself, watching the sunlight stream through the Venetian blinds as the dust particles danced on the rays of light. “I lost and found myself as I watched the light stream into my parents’ living room. Somehow, I knew what I was experiencing was truth.” This particular moment was pivotal in his development as an artist for years to come.

During his formative years, Garrett concentrated on the master works of great painters, ranging from Caravaggio to Picasso. His infatuation with art led him to understand that art is an essential factor in being human beings and that history is crucial for the development of art. “Art is not created in a vacuum. It must have history to live. Art should be a reflection of the artist’s past, present and future.”
