Original, vintage cubist oil painting of a carousel, by New York modernist, Gwen Sherman, (20th c). Painting has a wonderful WPA style and colorist manner. Horses appear to be playing on the carousel; the painting has a magical appeal. Gwen Sherman is listed in Davenport and Invaluable. Her best painting subjects include the circus, parks, Ferris wheels, and the World's Fair.

The painting is still housed in the original, vintage gold-painted wood trim frame; which is in very good condition. The linen liner has been restored, to a dark navy. The gold on the frame has been restored/repainted due to some chips and a couple of scrapes.
The painting is in excellent condition and has been recently cleaned. There have been 2-3 very small chips that were professionally restored. There is a light scraping lower left; possibly the manner of the artist, therefore this was not restored. Please review the images.
