Maria Veronica Liszt (Kinder) (1902–1992) was a distinguished artist from Gloucester, celebrated for her evocative landscapes and harbor scenes. Her artistic journey was shaped by studying under renowned masters such as Aldro T. Hibbard, Karl Nordstrom, and W. Lester Stevens, with mentorship from the esteemed Emile A. Gruppe. She honed her craft at prestigious institutions, graduating from the Scott Carbee School of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, and later refining her technique at the Art Students League of New York.
Liszt's deep connection to the arts was rooted in her upbringing, as her father, an accomplished painter, worked alongside the legendary John Singer Sargent. This early exposure to artistic excellence laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to her craft.
A vibrant figure in the art community, she was an active member of the North Shore Art Association of Gloucester, the Gloucester Society of Artists, the Academy Art Association, and the National Association of Women Painters. Her style, a harmonious blend of the Cape Ann School's painterly tradition and the influences of Post-Impressionism showcased her versatility and creativity. In addition to her acclaimed paintings, Liszt was a sought-after muralist, creating decorative works for private homes, hotels, and public buildings across Massachusetts, New York, and Florida.
Her artistic achievements were widely recognized through exhibitions at the North Shore Art Association, the National Academy of Design, the Grand Central Art Galleries in New York City, the New Jersey Art Association, and the Academic Artists Association in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1961, she was honored with the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Award by the North Shore Art Association, affirming her status as a significant figure in the American art scene.
