Max Liebermann, (20 July 1847 – 8 February 1935); was a German-Jewish painter and printmaker, and one of the leading proponents of Impressionism in Germany. Liebermann was a German Jewish artist in Berlin when Hitler's Nazi Party came to power. The Nazis considered Liebermann's artwork as " degenerate". The film "Monuments Men" shows how the Nazis banned and nearly destroyed all important works by Liebermann.

Titled Phyllis. Probability due to resemblance, is the artist's friend, Phyllis Anina Thompson.
Due to the style of the sitter's dress, (German, approximately 1934-1935), the painting's age, it is estimate the painting was created approximately 1934-1935, possibly one of the artist's last portrait paintings.
The painting still retains over 85% of original seal on the reverse; painting has never been removed from original frame and is behind glass. There is an original framer's label, from Hollywood, CA.
Both the painting and original wood frame are in excellent original condition.
