Signed lower right, in (Russian) Cyrillic, in red.
Nicholai Fechin was known to sign some of his artwork in Cyrillic; particularly his early to middle works, when the subjects of his landscape paintings, were of his hometown.
The first symbol is Cyrillic, and is (pronounced as) an “F”, for Fechin.
The second symbol that looks like an English “H”, is pronounced “N”, in Cyrillic. (Nicolai)
Painting alone measures approximately 25.5" X 21.5"
Painting, in gallery raw wood frame, measures approximately 25" X 28.9"
Painting is in excellent original condition, with no overpaints, or previous restorations.
Painting originally one of many from the artist's (Nicolai Fechin's) estate in Santa Monica California, that later became Sergie Bongart's residence. Nicholai Fechin's father was a wood carver, and it is a possibility Bongart had this painting framed in raw wood, to symbolize the Nicolai Fechin's home. Frame is estimated to be at approximately 1979-1980. Painting appears to be a very early work, signed in cyrillic in red, lower right, and is estimated to have been created at approximately 1925. (canvas appears to have been a loose canvas, and later was supported by board, on reverse) There is a catalog/exhibition number on reverse of the board, in red ink.
