EACH TUESDAY 7:30-10 P.M. rnoir successors, tnc exhibition surveys American photography from 1900 to recent developments in both commercial and noncommercial photography. Included are 167 black-and-white and 19 color photographs by 33 photographers. The show documents the development of two different and opposing traditions in American photography: work in a commercial context and work primarily for personal and creative motives. Among those representing the first group are Edward Steichen. Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Irving Penn and Ernst Haas. The second category presents works by Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Edward Weston, Ansel Adams and William Eggleston. The book bears the same name and reproduces all of the works exhibited.
