Richard Edward Miller Original Antique American Giverny School Impressionism Pasadena CA Oil Painting Eva Scott Fenyes 1936
Original American Giverny School Colony impressionism oil painting by American impressionist painter Richard Edward Miller, (1875-1943). This painting was painted when the artist was residing in Pasadena, California and spending time at the estate of the wealthy artist and patron of the arts, Eva Scott Fenyes. The open window behind the woman captures the fountain and pool at the Fenyes' estate, which is a common element in many of the artist's portraits during that time, as well as the subject of a woman in a dressing gown, bathed in soft light. The lady portrayed in the painting bears a striking resemblance to Eva Scott Fenyes; this aspect would require further research. The painting is an oil on board/ potentially on canvas attached to board and is dated 36 in the lower left corner. The measurements of the painting are approximately 5.8" x 8", plus the original antique frame. The original antique oil painting and the antique frame are in excellent condition. The artist' signature appears lightly in several areas, including the back of the board, in light blue, under the original gallery paper seal, verso. There is an old label present verso from Barbara Blechman, whom was affiliated with the Corcoran Gallery of Art, in Washington, DC; which had a large collection of paintings by Richard E Miller in their collection. When the Corcoran Gallery of Art closed in 2014, its collection was distributed, with many of the paintings acquired by the National Gallery of Art.
