Willem De Kooning Original Vintage Dutch American New York Abstract Expressionist Modernist Oil Painting "Red Kat" of Cartoon Krazy Kat
Willem De Kooning's original vintage New York abstract expressionist painting, entitled, "Red Kat". The title and subject reflect De Kooning's love of George Herriman's cartoon, "Krazy Kat", in which one had decorated de Kooning's studio wall, at one point in time. Krazy Kat was an American newspaper comic strip by cartoonist George Herriman (1880–1944), which ran from 1913 to 1944. It first appeared in the New York Evening Journal.

"Red Kat"
Oil on Canvas, nails holding canvas to stretcher bars
Painting is estimated to have been created from approximately the late 1940s to 1956. 1955 is a flash point for the artist with this thick manner of paint application, and color combination. Canvas does have a bit of age.
Painting's provenance is from New York, and pre-dates the artist's works later, on the West Coast
Approximately 9" X 12"
Verso stretcher bars state "Glendale, NY"
Painting is hand-signed verso, in what appears to be a red marker, and titled "Red Kat". Title and subject from the artist's long love of George Herriman's cartoon, "Krazy Kat".
The painting is signed lower left corner, of the painting; the "D", and the "K" portions of the signature, are the most prominently visible letters.
The painting is in very good, original condition. There have been no overpaints, chemical cleanings, or restorations. The painting has a deep technique with thin grooves between thick paint, and in a couple of areas has abrasion, and very minor paint loss, due to age. This is difficult to determine, due to technique. Please carefully examine photographs as part of the description.
